Speakez-vous français ?
This day had two moments worth mentioning. First, I met my former French lecturer (he's not Frenchman either). Nowadays I use French quite rarely so I warned him I could commit mistakes. He did correct me several times but I wanted to end the conversation with some funny wording. I couldn't remind how to day 'bless' in French. But heck, at the moment I did think it was 'blesser' (English interference). So I said: 'Merci d'avoir blessé mes oreilles avec une conversation en bon français'. I meant 'Thank you for having blessed my ears with a conversation in good French'. The lecturer looked at me awkwardly. Only hours later I got that I had to use 'bénir' for 'to bless'. 'Blesser' that I had made up meant 'to injure/wound'... So he heard my clumsy 'Thank you for having injured my ears...'
Once home I sat in my armchair to listen to a book. I turned on the light of the floor lamp and the bulb burnt out. Nothing was special when I put it away and brought to the trash bin. The kitchen was dimly lit when the bulb suddenly glowed up in my hand for a second! I screamed for a moment as this wasn't something I have ever witnessed. The logic said it could have been remnants of electricity. But still the long forgotten feeling of something akin to magic made my next 10 minutes special. I was looking at that bulb still sitting in the kitchen and imagining having powers.
